You can’t miss Kinnon & Co.’s Station Store in downtown Longreach. Keep walking through the shop until you reach the cafe out the back where you’ll find an open air but shady place to rest your weary head. If you want a quieter experience and don’t want to wait for a seat, check before you go because they have performances and tours that incorporate scones and billy tea as part of their package. Enjoy an outback bush theme tea with scones that are more damper than scone like and tea from an enamel rather than porcelain teapot. The cream is a bit too airy and light and the strawberry jam is your stock-standard type. I love the presentation of the Devonshire Tea and sitting on long benches amidst old stockmen paraphernalia such as whips, hats, saddles etc., and with an old Cobb & Co. waggon with horses parked out the back, is a real treat. You may even get to see Rusty the cattle dog. Open Monday to Friday and Saturday mornings.
Tea: Good old billy tea.
Price: $$
Overall: A step back to the old days.
