What I can’t get over when I first enter The Glass Cafe is the size of it – so much room! It would be the ideal place for large gatherings, and during warmer weather there’s a lovely courtyard out the back. Set slightly away from Mittagong’s ‘cafe strip’, The Glass Cafe commandeers a whole corner block – know wonder there is so much space! In winter there’s a wonderful gas fuelled heater in the middle of the room that feels like the centrepiece, and very utilised during cold Southern Highland winters. The date and plain scones err on the smaller side, so if you are eating for hunger rather than pleasure, I suggest ordering a couple. I’m here at around 9am and the scones are not long out of the oven: fresh and fluffy. I only try the plain and it has a creamy texture. The accompaniments of ordinary strawberry jam and super light cream, do a disservice to the scones. Oh well, you can’t have everything!
