Mojos The Deli feels as though it is in the wilderness rather than just on Wilderness Road. It’s not far from the attractions in Lovedale and the rest of the Hunter Valley, but feels a thousand miles away. Although there is a restaurant, Mojos on Wilderness that is open six nights a week, by day on the weekends The Deli serves gourmet picnic fare out on the lawn. The service is pretty slow considering there’s only one couple before us, but it’s well worth the wait. Plus who wouldn’t want to hang out in the chilled garden? Beanbag or deck chair, anyone? The perfect sized scones are slightly crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside, and are simply delectable. However, the crème de la crème of this DT is the exquisite creamy lemon butter – it’s the best I’ve ever had. The serving is more than generous and we lick the bowl clean. The cream is freshly whipped and lovely and thick, matching the quantity of the lemon butter. Open Friday to Monday from 9am until 3pm.
Tea: A few Madura tea varieties and Chai tea served in a small pot.
Overall: A sensational mellow alternative that feels off-the-beaten wine trail.
